Migration, Mobility and Settlement: Ireland and the Irish

This interdisciplinary conference explores the complex interplay between migration, mobility and settlement patterns across the Irish experience from prehistory to the present day. The geographical entity of Ireland has witnessed waves of settlement from diverse groups throughout its history. Each wave brought distinctive approaches to inhabiting and transforming the landscape, introducing new architectural forms, agricultural practices, and spatial organisations that have collectively shaped Ireland’s settlement history and geography. The conference also examines how Irish emigrants throughout history have transported, adapted, and re-imagined settlement patterns abroad.
